How Recipes Work
When you sell 1 Cappuccino, OpenBook automatically:- Deducts 18g from Coffee Beans inventory
- Deducts 150ml from Milk inventory
- Deducts 1 from Paper Cup inventory
- Calculates COGS using weighted average costs
Adding Recipe Items
Add Ingredient
Click + Add Ingredient and select:
- Resource: Which raw material
- Quantity: How much is used
- Unit: Measurement unit (must be compatible with resource’s unit)

Unit Conversions
Recipes can use different units than the resource’s base unit. OpenBook handles conversions automatically:| If Recipe Uses | And Resource Uses | OpenBook Will |

Products Without Recipes
Some products don’t consume inventory:- Services (e.g., “Consultation” at $100/hour)
- Digital goods
- Items sold at cost (direct resale)

- Verify that COGS matches actual ingredient costs
- Catch discrepancies between recorded and actual usage
